Singapore & Beyond

While you are in Singapore to learn Mandarin, you will find that Singapore and its neighbouring countries have a lot to offer. Here are some examples:

Tropical garden city

Singapore lies very close to the equator and its climate is tropical. It is one of the few cities in the world that have tropical rain forests within their borders. The McRitchie reservoir park offers the opportunity to hike in tropical rain forest and spot monkies and you can bike through forest at the outlying island of Pulau Ubin. Singapore's famous Zoo and Night Safari are also situated in real rain forest!

Colorful and multicultural

Althought the majority of Singapore's population consists of ethnic Chinese, some 24% of the city's population consists of Indians and Malays. A visit to Little India will expose you to the colors and smells of India!

A true metropolis

Singapore is a true metropolis with enormous air conditioned shopping malls, 24-hour cinemas and the choice of a huge variety of cafés, discos and restaurants. Since Singapore is also an important centre for international business, there are opportunities abound to arrange an internship with one of the multinationals present in the city state. You could try applying for internships while studying Chinese.

Southeast Asia

Cross the Causeway that connects Singapore to Malaysia and a new world opens itself for you. Malaysia is wellknown for its white beaches and blue sea, its excellent diving opportunities and national parks. Kuala Lumpur is a 30-minute flight away or you could choose to take the bus for five hours. South of Singapore is Indonesia. The closest Indonesian island is only half an hour by boat from Singapore and offers yet an entirely different experience, whether you're interested in backpacking or luxuous beach hotels and watersports.
